Judy-ism

A Proof of Concept Short Film

Written by Emily Nash, Directed by Emily Lerer

Judy is a self-proclaimed “Jew-ish” woman planning her wedding to a non-Jewish man. While at the cake tasting in preparation for her wedding reception, Judy tastes a piece of Jewish apple cake and is catapulted back in time to to her dreaded bat mitzvah in a reverse 13 Going on 30 Jewish nightmare. Will she make it back to the future in time to say “I do” under the chuppah? Hashem only knows.

Judy-ism had its world premiere at the Oscar-Qualifying LA Shorts International Film Festival in the summer of 2023, followed by screenings at the 2023 Oscar-qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival, the 2024 Oscar-qualifying Cinequest Film Festival, the 2024 Big Apple Film Festival, and the 2024 Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase.

Catalogue of Noses

A Musical Comedy Short Film

Written by Lauren Schaffel, Produced by Pink Tax

Catologue of Noses tells the story of Jewish teen actor Emily, who faces off with her mother and her Jewish plastic surgeon on the day of her scheduled nose surgery. Emily must navigate this emotional decision and learn unsettling truths about the consequences of assimilation.

This film combats the harmful portrayal of Jews in media that still exists today and which is built on centuries of underlying antisemitism. Since the antidote to hate is comedy, this story pokes fun at American beauty standards and Jewish stereotypes with an educational twist.

The script was selected as a semifinalist for the Reboot Studios Grant.
